QR Codes help Starbucks customers get their caffeine fix

Starbucks Thailand recently launched its first (and only) self-service machine inside Bangkok’s new AIS eSports studio. Customers can get their cup of coffee from the machine for about 1.63 EUR, which is less than the price at a staffed branch of Starbucks. Plus, the drink is fully customizable via the digital touch screen!

It takes only five simple steps for customers to choose their drink, customize it, then scan a QR Code to pay. What’s more, the machine is open 24 hours a day! Read the full story.

Scan a QR Code to enjoy a picnic in the park

Montgomery County in the USA has launched a new initiative to make it easier for residents to find restaurants near the county park they’re visiting. As part of the program, ‘Picnic in the Park’, visitors to Montgomery County parks will start to see signs with QR Codes linking to a list of restaurants within a 5-10 mile radius offering takeout or delivery.

Picnic in the Park is already set up at Jesup Blair Park, Silver Spring, and will expand to a range of other parks, selected based on the concentration of nearby restaurants. Read the full story.

QR Codes bring back music performances with Burger King

Burger King has teamed up with UK rap artist Tinie, to offer a bespoke virtual performance of his summer anthem ‘Whoppa’. Naturally, the promotion is based on the fast-food chain’s infamous Whopper burger.

For a limited time, Burger King UK customers will be able to scan a QR Code on their Whopper burger to generate a miniature of Tinie performing his latest hit, atop the signature burger.

Stephen de Wolf, Chief Creative Officer at BBH London, said: “In a world with no live music, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to experience an exclusive gig from one of the country’s biggest rap artists. And what better stage to do it on than a Whopper. Hilton hotels adopt QR Codes as part of their CleanStay initiative

The hospitality industry is rapidly adapting to meet health concerns. Among the many hotels making changes to ensure the safety of their guests, is Hilton. The popular hotel chain partnered with the manufacturer of Lysol to launch their new ‘CleanStay’ initiative. 

As part of this new initiative, guests will be greeted by placards reminding them that face masks are required, as well as QR Codes that guests can scan to learn more about CleanStay. Visitors can also scan QR Codes for more information about updated protocols, helping them to stay safe during their stay. Read the full story.

Restaurants such as the Frying Pan in Manhattan, are using QR Codes as a simple solution to safely provide menus to diners. While owner and chef at Philadelphia sushi restaurant, Tuna Bar, said he’s using QR Codes for his menus so that the restaurant has one less thing to sanitize. “The QR codes are very efficient since we can update the menu as we need,” says Sze “Since the restaurant isn’t at full capacity, our menu is limited to keep things fresh.” Read the full story.
